Function and use of S1 PV Disconnect

Why is a DC Disconnect required in a solar pumping system?

A DC Disconnect (PV Disconnect) is essential for ensuring the safety of solar pump systems. It allows you to:

  • Safely isolate the photovoltaic (PV) generator power source during installation or servicing.
  • Disconnect the power in emergency situations, protecting both personnel and equipment.
  • Comply with international safety standards (IEC/EN 60947-3).

Requirements for installing a DC Disconnect in a S1-700 solar pumping system

The switch must be installed between the PV generator and the controller. It must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum voltage rating: 220 V DC.
  • Continuous current rating: Equal to or higher than the maximum current of the connected PV generator.
  • DC specific design: The switch must be rated for DC, not AC.
  • Compliance: Must meet IEC/EN 60947-3

The "S1-PV Disconnect" is a DC disconnect switch that meets all of the above requirements.

WARNING - The On/Off switch of the S1-700 controller is a functional switch and does not disconnect power. A PV Disconnect switch rated at 220 V DC / 30 A DC and compliant with IEC/EN 60947-3 must be installed to ensure safe isolation of the pump controller.

PV Disconnect use in the S1-200 system

A PV Disconnect can also be used with S1-200 systems as an optional accessory.
