This system is used to pump water from a ditch/canal/river or well pipe onto the land or into ditches.

This allows meadow birds to find food more easily. These birds come from Africa to the North in the winter months to breed there. In the summer months, after the chicks have grown up, they return to Africa.

A number of examples of meadow birds: Black-tailed Godwit, Lapwing, Oystercatcher and Redshank.
