The S1 controller is built to be robust. However, to maximize its lifespan, install it in a location where it is protected from direct exposure to the elements.
Although it is designed for outdoor use, keeping it in the shade is recommended to prevent overheating.
If the controller begins to overheat, it will reduce power output. If the temperature becomes too high, it will shut down temporarily until it cools down. This is part of its active temperature management system.
Installing the S1-200 and S1-700 controllers in a shaded location, as shown in the picture below, helps protect them from direct sunlight.
