The village of Vegas el Volcan lies within the "Corredor Seco" which translates to Dry Corridor, an area with very little rainfall. Due to extensive droughts in recent years people living in there suffered substantial or total loss of harvests. UtzChe´ a local NGO has helped to implement solar pumping systems in food security programs.
This particular system was installed to irrigate 1 ha of farmland in total, divided into smaller areas corresponding to different families. Thanks to the solar pumping system installed the village of Vegas el Volcan is now able to secure food production and thus improve their lives in general.
