The community of Achuim is formed by people of the AWAJUN ethnic group, a culture that inhabits the forests of the northern jungle of Peru and the southern jungle of Ecuador.
The project that consists of providing drinking water to this isolated community has been executed by the NATIONAL PROGRAM OF RURAL SANITATION (PNSR) of Peru, a program that belongs to the MINISTRY OF HOUSING of Peru.
The company responsible for the construction of the entire water system is INGECOSAC, contracted by the PNSR
In fact Achuim is the first locality where the PNSR has installed Lorentz pumping systems for water in native communities of the jungle.
To access the community it takes between 2 or 3 days from the city of Lima or Trujillo, being the last section a walk of more than 10 hours through the mountainous jungle.
In the execution of this project, the equipment and installation personnel were taken by helicopter in the last section.
This project allows serving in Achuim 94 UBS (Basic Sanitation Units), each of which includes toilets, showers and drinking water.
