Function and use of Dry Run Protection

The Dry Run Protection accessory, protects your pump from running dry and getting damaged.

fullscreen

If the water level drops below the Dry Run Protector, the controller will stop the pump and delay the restart for 15 minutes for the water level to recover. To force a quick restart, turn the controller Off, then On again.

fullscreen

The Dry Run Protection accessory must be positioned vertically, within 10°.

If the pump is not going to be installed vertically, find an alternative way to mount or suspend the Dry Run Protection accessory, so that it is located higher than the pump and in a vertical position.

For more information, please click on the following link:

  • Using the pump in a horizontal position

Fixing and submersion depth

  • Along with the Dry Run Protection accessory two cables ties are provided.
  • Clamp the accessory to the pipe just above the pump outlet as shown in the picture below.
  • The maximum submersion depth is 50 meters.

Connection to the controller

The Dry Run Protection accessory connects to the controller input socket marked with the following symbol, which is printed on the housing of the controller. See below the connection point for S1-200 and S1-700.

Remove the protective cap from the controller’s input socket.

Take the cable with the Dry Run Protection connector and make sure the pins are properly aligned with the controller socket.

Screw the connector in firmly until it stops turning.

Below is a video showing how to correctly connect the accessory to the controller. (This video shows the S1-200 controller, the connection also applies to the S1-700 controller)

Activation

The Dry Run Protection accessory can be activated in two ways:

  • Using the S-Connect application (with a Smartphone or tablet) or
  • without using the S-Connect app, in case you do not have a Smartphone at hand.

To activate the Dry Run Protection accessory via the app using a Smartphone, refer to the article below for more information:

Activate the dry run protection using the App

  • Managing sensor inputs and accessories with the S-Connect app

To activate the Dry Run Protection accessory without using the S-Connect app, see the link below:

  • The Dry Run Protection accessory is installed and has detected the pump is running dry.
  • Check that the pump is fully submerged and confirm that the water level in the well is actually below the sensor. If so, the Dry Run Protection has operated correctly.
  • Make sure the accessory is installed properly.
  • Once the water level rises above the accessory, the pump will restart automatically after 15 minutes.
  • There is no Dry Run Protection accessory or jumper plug(1)connected, but the app shows the event. “Dry run protection switch”.
  • Open S-Connect App → Advanced Settings → Check if the option "Dry Run Protection Switch" is active. If yes, deactivate it, otherwise install a Dry Run Protection accessory or a jumper plug on the S1 controller.
  • Pump will remain stopped until the option "Dry Run Protection Switch" in the app is deactivated.
  • The Dry Run Protection accessory is not working.
  • Verify that the accessory is not physically damaged or has not been exposed to lightning. Test with a new Dry Run Protection accessory or a jumper plug.
  • Contact your distributor to replace the damaged Dry Run Protection accessory and extension cable.
  • If the Dry Run Protection is not damaged, the accessory will work properly once the accessory installation and pump settings have been corrected.
  • Check that the plugs are properly connected and clean. Ensure there is no dirt or water inside any plug (including extension cables, refer also to the "Extension Cable Manual")
  • Verify that the Dry Run Protection accessory is correctly activated. Follow the steps to activate the accessory (described above on this webpage) either using the S-Connect App or manually without using the App.
  • Verify correct installation and positioning of the Dry Run Protection accessory in water. Check the actual water level. Refer to the "Dry Run Protection accessory manual".
  • If an accessory extension cable is used, remove the extension cable and connect the Dry Run Protection accessory directly to the controller. Check all plugs and clean if necessary.
  • The controller input might be damaged. Replace the accessory with a jumper plug. If the issue persists, the controller input is likely damaged.

(1) Note:The jumper plug is not included in the S1 system. You can order it separately from your distributor using part code 19-005490.
